Description:

Patients:
This phase II trial involved 39 patients with anaplastic glioma. The median patient age was 43 years and 62% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent irinotecan and the biologic therapy agent thalidomide (an antiangiogenic drug that targets tumor blood supply).

Toxicities:
There were 4 treatment-related deaths due to pulmonary embolism, diarrhea/dehydration, and infection. Grade 3-4 neutropenia and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 16.6 months.
