Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 41 patients with metastatic melanoma of originating from the skin or eye who had not received prior chemotherapy. The median patient age was 57 years and 26 were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy aflibercept, which is an inhibitor of the VEGF protein that interferes with tumor growth.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 brain ischemia (stroke). Grade 3 hypertension and kidney toxicity were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 16.3 months.
