Description:

Patients: This Phase I study involved seven patients with glioblastoma multiforme, and two patients with anaplastic astrocytoma.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of intradermal vaccination of peptide-pulsed dendritic cells. Peripheral blood dendritic cells were pulsed with peptides eluted from the surface of the patient’s own tumor cells.

Toxicity: There were no serious adverse events or clinical or radiological evidence of autoimmune reaction in any patient. One patient developed a minor fever, nausea and vomiting. Another patient developed palpable lymph nodes which persisted for 2 months.

Results: The median survival times for the gliobalstoma multiforme patients who received this treatment was 455 days (14.9 months).
