Description:

Patients:
This study involved 55 elderly non-small-cell lung cancer patients who had not received prior chemotherapy. The median patient age was 76 years (range of 71 to 86) and 37 were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agents carboplatin and gemcitabine.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were grade 4 neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and leucopenia. Loss of appetite and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 14.2 months.
