Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 38 BRAF wild-type melanoma patients, 68% of whom were male. No age information was provided.

Treatment:
Patients received biologic therapy with axitinib (an inhibitor of the VEGF protein that interferes with cancer cell growth) and chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were grade 4 neutropenia. Grade 3 nerve toxicity and heart failure were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 14 months.
