Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 58 patients with glioblastoma multiforme. These patients had already relapsed or progressed after surgery and standard radiotherapy.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the administration of three chemotherapy drugs, procarbazine (matulane), BCNU, and vincristine (oncovin).

Toxicity: Five patients developed partially reversible grade 3 pulmonary toxic effects. Two patients had pulmonary embolism. One patient developed lower limb deep vein thrombosis. Other toxicities included grade 1-4 neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, grade 1-3 anemia, grade 1-3 nausea and vomiting, grade 1-3 hepatic toxic effect, and grade 3 cutaneous allergy.

Results: Median survival time from start of chemotherapy was 13.8 months.
