Description:

Patients: This study involved 270 patients (subjects in the “Valid Study Group”) divided into two groups. Group 1 contained 137 patients. Of these 137 patients, 123 had newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. The other 14 had an anaplastic glioma or a mixed glioma. Group 2 contained 133 patients. Of these 133 patients, 107 had newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. The other 26 had an anaplastic glioma or a mixed glioma.

Treatment: The treatment for Group 1 included: surgery, external beam radiation therapy, and the chemotherapy drug BCNU.

Toxicity: Not discussed, however necrosis was found in 15 patients and was considered not a treatment failure, but a result of therapy.

Results: For Group 1, the median survival for glioblastoma multiforme patients was 58.1 weeks (13.5 months).
