Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 26 patients with advanced, untreated non-small cell lung cancer. Twenty of the patients were men and 6 patients (23%) were women. The median age was 66 years, ranging from 47 to 73.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs cisplatin and S-1. S-1 is a drug that works similarly to fluorouracil.

Toxicity: Grade 3/4 anemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia were reported in 15.8% of patients. Grade 3 anorexia was reported in 1 person, and diarrhea and fatigue were each reported in two patients.

Results: The median overall survival was 13.4 months.
