Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 45 men with castration-resistant prostate cancer. The median age was 69, ranging from 52 to 84 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug patupilone.

Toxicity: Grade 4 abdominal pain and dehydration were each reported once. The most common grade 3 toxicities were diarrhea, fatigue, vomiting and dehydration.

Results: The median overall survival was 13.4 months.

Support: This study was supported by research funds from Novartis Pharmaceuticals, which developed patupilone.
