Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved epithelial ovarian, primary fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer patients previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 412 patients with a median age of 59 years. Group B had 416 patients with a median age of 59 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agent called patupilone.

Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agent called pegylated liposomal doxorubicin.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths were reported in group A. Grade 3-4 diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and dehydration were also reported.

Treatment-related deaths were reported in group B. Grade 3-4 hand-foot skin reaction, mucositis (inflammation of the lining of the GI tract), and neutropenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rate for groups A and B were 13.2 and 12.7 months, respectively.
