Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 86 advanced melanoma patients. The median patient age was 54 years and 70% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent ipilimumab (a monoclonal antibody that inhibits the CTLA-4 protein and enhances the anti-tumor immune response) and the chemotherapy agent fotemustine.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and liver toxicity.

Results:
The median overall survival was 13.3 months.
