Description:

Patients: This study involved eighty-three patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. These patients ranged in age from 23 to 85 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with chemotherapy drugs; either gemcitabine plus cisplatin or vinorelbine plus cisplatin.

Toxicity: One death occurred, in a patient taking the vinorelbine and cisplatin. The most common grade 3 or 4 toxicities were vomiting and fatigue. Grade 1 and 2 toxicities included vomiting, mucositis, diarrhea, fever, neuropathy, myalgia, edema, alopecia, changes in function of kidneys and liver.

Results: The median overall survival was 12.9 months for patients treated with gemcitabine plus cisplatin, and 9.0 months for those treated with vinorelbine plus cisplatin.
