Description:

Patients: This Phase I/II study involved 63 patients with advanced colorectal cancer.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of three drugs – irinotecan (camptosar), folinic acid (leucovorin), and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU, adrucil).

Toxicity: There were three deaths due to septic shock that were possibly or probably treatment-related. Grade 3-4 non-hematological drug-related toxicities included delayed diarrhea, stomatitis, fatigue, and nausea/vomiting.

Results: Median survival was 12.0 months.

Support: No competing interests were declared. Two of the authors have e-mail addresses with pharmaceutical companies – one with Aventis and one with Astrazeneca. Irinotecan was supplied by Aventis.
