Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved eighty-seven women with metastatic breast cancer. The majority had received chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug docetaxel.

Toxicity: One patient, with neutropenic fever, died of hemorrhage (intravascular coagulation, thrombocytopenia, internal bleeding, with pulmonary edema and liver disease). Neutropenia was the most common grade 4 toxicity, occurring in 87% of patients. Grade 4 leukopenia was reported in 48% of patients. Other toxicities included anemia, thrombocytopenia, nail disorder, asthenia, fluid retention, and pain.

Results: The median overall survival was 12 months.
