Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 65 patients with non-small cell lung cancer. They had not received chemotherapy before being in this study. These patients ranged in age from 70 to 83 years of age.

Treatment: These patients were treated with either vinorelbine or vinorelbine with cisplatin. Vinorelbine and cisplatin are both chemotherapy drugs.

Toxicity: One patient treated with vinorelbine and cisplatin developed febrile neutropenia and died. Grade 4 neutropenia occurred in 14.7% of patients treated with vinorelbine and cisplatin and in 9.7% of those treated with vinorelbine alone. Other toxicities included anemia and thrombocytopenia.

Results: The median overall survival was 12 months for patients treated with vinorelbine alone, and 11.3 months for those treated with both vinorelbine and cisplatin.
