Description:

Patients:
This study involved women with epithelial ovarian cancer, Fallopian tube or primary peritoneal carcinomas. Patients were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 99 patients with a median age of 61 years. Group B had 97 patients with a median age of 59 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents docetaxel and carboplatin.

Patients in group B were treated with docetaxel and carboplatin, as well as the biologic therapy agent celecoxib, which is an inhibitor of the COX-2 protein and works as an anti-inflammatory drug.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 3-4 and included neutropenia and leucopenia.
The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 3-4 and included neutropenia, leucopenia, and skin rash.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 34.7 and 34.3 months, respectively.
