Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 1,967 patients with resected Dukes' C colon carcinoma. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 comprised 993 patients and Group 2 comprised 974 patients.

Treatment: Patients in Group 1 were treated with the chemotherapy drug, capecitabine (xeloda). Patients in Group 2 were treated with two chemotherapy drugs, 5-FU (adrucil) and leucovorin.

Toxicity: There were three treatment related deaths in Group 1 (multi-organ failure, septic shock, and pneumonia). There were four treatment related deaths in Group 2 (severe diarrhea and vomiting, respiratory arrest, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, bronchopneumonia).

Results: Survival results were not discussed.
