Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved 323 castration- resistant prostate cancer patients with bone metastases and a median age of 66.1 years.

Treatment:
Patients received zoledronic acid, a biologic therapy agent that inhibits breakdown of bone.

Toxicities:
There was one treatment-related death due to kidney failure. Grade 3 pain and fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 37.9 months.
