Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved female advanced metastatic breast cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 104 patients with a median age of 52 years. Group B had 102 patients with a median age of 52 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with docetaxel and capecitabine.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with vinorelbine and capecitabine.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and liver toxicity. Grade 3 hand-foot syndrome and gastrointestinal reactions were also reported.

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and liver toxicity. Grade 3 hand-foot syndrome and leukopenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival times for groups A and B were 35.3 and 19.8 months, respectively.
